What is Avocado Salsa?

Our avocado salsa is a vibrant, creamy twist on traditional salsa! It combines the rich, buttery texture of avocado with the zesty, refreshing flavors of fresh vegetables and herbs. It’s like a party in your mouth! This salsa isn’t just a side dish; it’s a versatile, delicious topping or dip that’s perfect for everything from tacos and baked salmon to chips, crackers, and pita.

The beauty of this avocado salsa is how simple and customizable it is. You can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste, adding more heat with extra jalapeños or mellowing it out with a bit more avocado. Whether you’re looking to add texture and flavor to your meal or just need a flavorful dip, avocado salsa is a guaranteed winner!

Ingredients You Need

  • Avocado, Diced – Avocado adds a creamy texture and rich flavor, taking typical salsa to the next level!
  • Diced Tomatoes – Tomatoes bring freshness and juiciness to the table. They beautifully balance the creaminess of the avocado with their vibrant flavor.
  • Chopped Jalapeño – Jalapeños add a spicy kick that livens up the salsa, giving it a bit of heat to complement the other flavors.
  • Finely Diced Red Onion – Red onion provides a sharp, slightly sweet flavor that adds depth to the salsa.
  • Chopped Cilantro – Cilantro adds a fresh, herbal note that enhances the other ingredients, adding brightness to the salsa.
  • Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice – Lime juice adds a zesty tang that brightens up the dish.
  • Salt – Salt enhances the flavors, making each bite of the salsa more vibrant and flavorful.
  • Cracked Black Pepper – Black pepper adds a subtle spice that rounds out all of the flavors.

How to Make Avocado Salsa

  1. Combine. Add the diced avocado, tomatoes, chopped jalapeño, finely diced red onion, chopped cilantro, and lime juice to a medium bowl.
  2. Season. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, adjusting depending on your preference.
  3. Toss. Gently fold all of the ingredients together.
  4. Serve. Serve immediately alongside your favorite dishes or with chips or pita as an appetizer or side.

Variations

  • Add Mango – Dice some mango to add a sweet and tangy twist!
  • Use Different Peppers – Experiment with different types of peppers, like serrano or poblano, to vary the heat level and flavor.
  • Include Corn – Add some grilled corn kernels for a bit of crunch and a smoky flavor that’s sure to complement the other ingredients.
  • Try a Different Herb – Instead of cilantro, use basil or mint.
  • Add Black Beans – Incorporate black beans for added texture and protein.
  • Use Orange or Lemon Juice – Substitute lime juice with orange or lemon juice for a slightly different citrus flavor.
  • Roast the Vegetables – Roasting the tomatoes, jalapeños, and red onions before mixing them can bring out a deeper, caramelized flavor.
  • Add Cotija Cheese – Crumbled cotija cheese can add a salty and creamy texture that complements the freshness of the salsa.

Can I Store Leftovers?

Yes, you can absolutely store leftovers, but we recommend keeping the avocado separate from the other ingredients. If you make it ahead, just add the avocado right before serving to avoid having it turn brown.

To refrigerate, place the salsa in an airtight container. If you’re storing it without the avocado, it can last for 4-5 days. With the avocado, it will be 1-2 days at most. In a pinch, try adding a little extra citrus to make the avocado last a little longer.

We do not recommend freezing this recipe — the texture will not be the same when it’s defrosted.
