What is Pistachio Tiramisu?

Pistachio tiramisu is our fun twist on the classic Italian dessert, combining the rich, creamy layers of traditional tiramisu with the unique and nutty flavor of pistachios. We create a traditional filling using mascarpone cheese and sugar but add pistachio cream. Then we double down on the pistachio flavor by also adding the cream to the espresso mixture that we soak the ladyfingers in.

Topped with a sprinkle of crushed pistachios, this tiramisu not only tastes heavenly but also looks absolutely stunning with its vibrant green garnish. It’s a sophisticated yet simple dessert that’s sure to impress anyone who tries it!

Ingredients You Need

  • Mascarpone Cheese – This creamy, rich cheese is the heart of tiramisu — it gives this dessert its signature smooth and velvety texture.
  • Granulated Sugar – We use standard white sugar to sweeten the creamy mascarpone mixture.
  • Pistachio Cream – This is the key to infusing nutty flavor into both the whipped cream mixture and the ladyfinger layer.
  • Cold Heavy Cream – Using heavy cream helps to give the whipped cream layer a fluffy and airy texture.
  • Vanilla Extract – We love how vanilla complements the pistachio and coffee notes but if you want to double down on the pistachio flavor you can use pistachio extract, too.
  • Chilled Espresso or Strong Brewed Coffee – Soaking the ladyfingers in espresso gives them the classic robust coffee flavor in tiramisu.
  • Ladyfingers – We use these delicate, airy cookies to form the layers of the tiramisu. Once they soak up the espresso they form a luscious light and spongy texture.
  • Crushed Pistachios for Garnish – Sprinkling crushed pistachios adds a delightful crunch and a burst of color on top. It makes for the prettiest presentation!

How to Make this Easy Pistachio Tiramisu

  1. Make the Cream Filling. Add the mascarpone and granulated sugar to a large bowl and mix with an electric mixer. Then, pour in the pistachio cream, heavy cream, and vanilla and mix briefly on low before increasing the speed in intervals until medium peaks form. Set aside.
  2. Whip Up the Espresso Mixture. Whisk together the chilled espresso and pistachio cream.
  3. Assemble. Form the bottom layer by first dipping the ladyfingers in the espresso mixture and then placing it in the baking dish. Then, use a rubber spatula to spread the whipped cream over the top. Do the same to create the second layer before covering and refrigerating overnight.
  4. Serve. When ready to serve, sprinkle the crushed pistachios evenly over the top of the tiramisu.

Variations

  • Chocolate – Incorporate a layer of melted dark chocolate or chocolate ganache between the layers of mascarpone and ladyfingers.
  • Chocolate Shavings – Top the tiramisu with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder along with the crushed pistachios.
  • Mixed Berries – Add a layer of fresh mixed berries such as raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries between the mascarpone layers.
  • Lemon Zest – Add lemon zest to the mascarpone mixture for a refreshing citrusy flavor.
  • Nutella Swirl – Swirl Nutella into the mascarpone mixture for a chocolate-hazelnut twist.

Can I Store Leftovers?

Yes, you can store leftover tiramisu! Just know that as it sits the ladyfingers may become soft as they soak up the moisture from the other layers.

Pistachio tiramisu can be stored for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or store slices in airtight containers.

Freeze tiramisu for up to 3 months in freezer bags or wrapped in plastic wrap.
