Why this s’mores chocolate cake is the best!

If you have been making our recipes for a while, then you know how much we love a solid shortcut! We use devil’s food cake mix and instant chocolate pudding as the base for this rich chocolate cake. Using these ready-to-bake mixes takes the guesswork out of baking. Instead of having to measure a ton of ingredients, it is all taken care of for you!

We take these two baking mixes and put our delicious spin on it. We add in greek yogurt (or sour cream) to make it extra creamy. And the graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate chunks transform a simple devils food cake mix into an unforgettable treat!

How to make s’mores chocolate cake

  1. In a large bowl, pour out the devil’s food cake mix and add in the eggs, vegetable oil, greek yogurt (or sour cream), warm water, and instant chocolate pudding mix.
  2. Scoop half of the devil’s food cake batter into an oven-safe baking dish.
  3. Arrange the graham crackers in a layer on top of the batter.
  4. Pull the marshmallows apart into halves and place them on top of the graham crackers.
  5. Sprinkle on half of the chocolate chips or chocolate chunks.
  6. Scoop the second half of the devil’s food cake batter on top. Spread it evenly over the s’mores ingredient using a rubber spatula.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips or chocolate chunks on top.
  8. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. The best way to check for doneness is by poking a toothpick or skewer into the cake. If it pulls out clean, the cake is cooked. If some of the cake crumbles stick to it, then the cake needs a little bit more time!
  9. Serve warm!

  1. Hi, would it be possible to bake the cake before and warm it just before serving? If yes a what temperature the oven and for how long?

  2. Almost all of the cake mixes have cut down the size of their boxes to 15.25 oz. Cannot seem to find 18.25 oz. Any suggestions? I would love to try this.
